Brian Frederick moved to Lorain County in 1983 to become the Associate Director of the Lorain County Board of Mental Health until 1990 when he left to create a consulting firm.  Brian became the President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County in 1998.

Brian is involved in many local and regional civic efforts including serving as 1st Vice Chair of the Fund for Our Economic Future, a regional consortium of philanthropy promoting the economic competitiveness of NE Ohio, and as a Board member and Governance Chair of Team Lorain County.  Brian was the founding Board Chair of The Civic Commons, and led that organization to successfully transition into a program of ideastream®. He has also served as the co-Chair of the economic development committee for the Oberlin Project.

Brian has served on numerous committees for Philanthropy Ohio and the Council on Foundations.  He was involved for eleven years with the creation and implementation of the certification process for National Standards for Community Foundations, was a founding board member of the Community Foundation National Standards Board, and currently serves on the Appeals Committee.  He is a faculty member and teaches Community Foundation Fundamentals for the Center for Community Foundation Excellence and has served as Board Chair of the Midwest Community Foundation Ventures, a four-state collaboration to promote innovation in community philanthropy.

From 1999 to 2011, Brian was one of eleven U.S. ambassadors of the Transatlantic Community Foundation Network and was a founding member of the advisory committee to the German Marshall Fund for the Community Foundation Transatlantic Fellowship.
