Excellence in Leadership Award
Claudia Jones is recently retired after 35 years with Oberlin College where she most recently served as the Associate Director of Fund Development. Since retiring, Claudia has embraced her “second career” as an outstanding community volunteer and Lorain County is the grateful beneficiary.
Claudia is a lifetime Girl Scout and she fully supports the mission of the Girl Scouts to develop girls’ courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place. She is a past Board Chair for the Girl Scouts of Erie Shores legacy council (Lorain County) and she continues as a Board member-at-large for the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) where she is a member of the fund development committee. This past year, Claudia chaired the task committee that conducted a national search to recruit GSNEO’s new CEO, and she received the President’s Award for her volunteer leadership. Claudia was also recognized as a Girl Scout Woman of Distinction.
Additionally, Claudia is a member of the New Sunrise Properties Board that focuses on providing safe, affordable, permanent housing for Lorain County residents with low to moderate income or who may have moderate to severe mental illness. In the recent past, Claudia served as the organization’s short-term interim CEO and a member of the search task force that recruited the new CEO.
Claudia supports the Lorain County Urban League (LCUL), serving as treasurer of the LCUL Guild. The Guild undertakes fundraising, community service and community awareness, promoting volunteer participation and leadership consistent with the goals of LCUL.
