Charles & Alyce Horton

Charles began employment with the ServiceMaster Company in 1982 and worked as a Management Consultant for the corporate office until November 1984 when he purchased a ServiceMaster franchise.  As President of ServiceMaster By Horton from 1984 to 2010, Charles grew the company to a full service janitorial company specializing in Disaster and Restoration Services, Commercial and Residential Cleaning Services, Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Services and employing over 125 people.  During his affiliation with ServiceMaster, Charles was recognized with the Special Achiever Award consecutively from 1987 to 2000 and the Premier Circle Award, given to the top 40 franchises in the country.  In January 2012 Charles opened Custom Cleaning Service, a full service janitorial company.

Charles, a 1993 graduate of LLC, currently serves on the Mercy Hospital Foundation Board and The Zion Community Development Corporation Board.  Other affiliations include: Team Lorain County, The Oberlin Rotary, The Oberlin Exchange Club, and Oberlin Chamber of Commerce. Past community involvement includes board service to: the Community Foundation, Lorain County Urban League, Lorain County Community College Foundation, and the Elyria Salvation Army.

 

Alyce M. Horton holds a BA Degree in Psychology and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College. Employed by the Social Security Administration for 30 years as a Claims Representative, Alyce retired in 2004. In 2005 Alyce began working for the Lorain County Urban League as an Employment Specialist, Membership Coordinator and Special Events Coordinator, until she retired in May 2011.

Alyce currently serves on the Oberlin Underground Railroad Society Board of Directors and is a member of the Lorain County Urban League Guild and 100 Women. Past professional associations include: Elyria YWCA; Zion Community Development Corporation; Vice President of the Oberlin Welcome Wagon Club. Alyce is a faithful and very active member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin where she is the Lay Leader for the Finishing Touches Ministry and a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
