Julie Chase-Morefield is Executive Director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, the largest hunger-relief organization in North Central Ohio, which provides food and grocery products to a network of 105 partner hunger-relief charities serving families in need in Lorain, Erie, Huron & Crawford Counties. In April 2013, Julie was featured by Crain’s Cleveland Business as part of their series “Who to Watch in Nonprofit”.
Since becoming the Executive Director in 2004, Julie has tripled distribution of food and grocery products and expanded Second Harvest’s role to create innovative programs and solutions to address hunger issues in our community, including: Kids Café program, which provides 12,000 evening meals to children monthly; The BackPack Program, providing over 2,000 children weekly with food for the weekend; Training program for the Ohio Benefit Bank counselors to aid clients in search of benefits; Farmer’s Market initiative, bringing 2 million pounds of produce to families annually; and a Nutrition education pilot program educating organizations about fresh produce and creating the regions first mobile food pantry. In addition, Julie is a strong educator and advocator for the expansion of funding for hunger relief programs. Currently, Julie is leading Second Harvest through a $5M capital campaign to build a new food distribution center, tripling the size of the current building.
Julie’s current affiliations are: board of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, the advisory board of the Development Fund of the Western Reserve and the Local Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. Prior to joining Second Harvest, Julie served as the Director of Marketing & Operations for the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
