big brothers big sisters of lorain county
Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages
6 through 18, in communities across Lorain County. We have two primary core programs: Community and Site-Based Programs. Mentors must be at least 14 to volunteer in our School-Based Program, and at least 18 years old for our Community-Based program. In Community-Based programming, the volunteer picks up the child from his/her home, and they share valuable time together in
the community. These locations consist of sporting events, community parks, public events, or activities that will allow the mentor and mentee a chance to know each other. Within our School-Based Programs, we have two elements: Lunch Buddies and After-School Mentoring. In Lunch Buddies, the mentor comes to the child’s school to spend time with the child during their lunch period, usually on
the same day each week. In the After-School program, we support one-to-one mentoring relationships between high school students and elementary age students.
